1. Describe the structure and physical functions of the female and male reproductive organs.
2. Discuss the physiological changes occurring in the client during normal pregnancy.
3. Summarize appropriate measures to alleviate the minor discomforts of pregnancy.
4. Summarize the significant changes in the growth and development of the fetus and its effect on the pregnant client.
5. Describe the signs and symptoms of pregnancy.
6. Discuss the psycho-social needs of the pregnant client, significant other and the family during the prenatal period.
7. Discuss the psychological changes of pregnancy occurring in the client, significant other, and family during the prenatal period.
8. Identify infection which may occur following procedures during the prenatal period.
9. Discuss drug categories and their specific use during the prenatal period.

2021-3 MIDW3101 INTRODUCTION TO MIDWIFERY

This course will cover two modules. Module I consists of a total of eight (8) units comprising basic concepts underlying the study and practice of Midwifery in Belize. Module II emphasizes family life education and family planning as it relates to the Belizean population.

This module consists of five (5) units which focus on human reproduction and the development of student midwife’s knowledge and skills in applying the nursing process in meeting the total needs of the pregnant client and significant other, and family during the prenatal period.
