2022-1 ENGL3105 LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION
This course focuses on developing listening, speaking, verbal and non-verbal interaction by first introducing students to the definition of what communication is and the integral role of language. Specifically, the characteristics of Creole languages will be discussed, with some contrastive analysis to the English language, to improve students’ structural competence (oral, written, visual). Emphasis is placed upon individual presentations, group activities, discussions, and other projects. The use of local and regional media outputs will be used to develop students’ appreciation of how the new technologies are influencing the perception of culture and communication in our society. Upon completion, students should be able to improve interpersonal communication skills to enhance classroom, job, and social performance. Students will also acquire the knowledge to succeed in the “Language and Community” sub-unit and be better equipped to succeed in the “Gathering and Processing Information” and ``Speaking and Writing” sub-units.
