This course allows students to apply the research process and methods, and assist in the development of problem solving skills. It provides experiential opportunities to critically evaluate clinical laboratory literature and apply this knowledge to the clinical laboratory setting and scientific research work. At the completion of this course students will possess knowledge, skills and relevant experiences in research design and practice sufficient to evaluate published studies as an informed consumer.

This course introduces the student to the chemistry of medicinal substances, drug design & development and analysis of drugs and pharmaceutical products. Emphasis is placed on the chemical structure and functional groups as they affect the physicochemical properties,
pharmacological effects and pharmacokinetics of a drug. It explores the structure and activity relationships of medicinal substances and examines the methods involved in the pharmaceutical analysis and quality control of drugs.
