2021-1 PUED PRE UNIVERSITY ORIENTATION

This course is designed to prepare students who are enrolled in courses (Web-Enhanced, Blended, and or Online) at the University of Belize. Students are required to complete all three (3) Levels based on the course modality registered for:

Level 1: MOODLE for Students

Is tailored for students enrolled in Web-Enhanced Courses, also known as face to face courses at the University of Belize.  Students are required to complete this level, once every two years. Topics include Introduction to E-Learning; and A Student's Guide to Moodle. Once complete students will gain immediate access to their face to face courses on the Moodle platform.

Level 2: E-Learning for Students

Students who have successfully completed level 1 (MOODLE for Students) and are interested in enrolling in a Blended or Online Course should complete this level ( E-Learning for Students). Students are required to complete this level, once every two years. Topics include The Virtual Classroom. Once complete, students will gain immediate access to their blended and online courses on the Moodle platform.

The sessions ( Level 1 and 2) teach participants through visual layouts and online practice exercises to enhance, their e-learning platform and tools skills, accompanied by step by step video tutorials to help guide participants as they progress through each skill. Upon completion of these sessions’ participants will have the necessary skills to attend, participate and be successful at any e-learning course enrolled at the University of Belize. 

Level 3: Lockdown Browser

Students who have successfully completed level 1 (MOODLE for Students) and level 2 (E-Learning for Students) and are enrolled into courses at the university are required to complete this level. 

Lockdown Browser is a customized browser application designed for the prevention of cheating when taking tests or final examination. This self-paced course is designed for students of the University of Belize who will be utilizing the MOODLE platform to complete their test/final assessment. This course focuses on topics such as What is the Respondus Browser, Purpose, Instructor Controls, The Respondus Monitor, and Installing the Lockdown Browser.

2020-2 BIOL0016 DEVELOPMENTAL BIOLOGY

This developmental course is offered to students who are required to take General Biology 1 as a core course in their associates’ degree program of study at the University of Belize. In addition, this course is to assist those students who did not perform well in their high school biology course but want to pursue a tertiary level degree in a field that requires General Biology 1. Thus, this developmental course provides an overview of classification, chemistry of life, transport systems, reproduction, genetics and ecology.

2020-2 CHEM0016 DEVELOPMENTAL CHEMISTRY

This developmental course is offered to students who are required to take General Chemistry 1 as a core course in their associates’ degree program of study at the University of Belize. This is an introductory course designed for students with no Chemistry background who need to take General Chemistry I and Introduction to Organic Chemistry & Biochemistry. It includes basic principles in Chemistry. Topics to be covered: Units of Measurement; States of Matter; Atomic Theory and Structure; Chemical Bonding; Chemical Reactions; The Periodic Table; Mole Calculations; Chemical Names and Formulas.

2020-2 CMPS0014 EXPLORING MICROSOFT OFFICE

This course is designed to teach the fundamentals of computer which includes Microsoft Office Application – Microsoft Word 2016 and Microsoft PowerPoint 2016. Topics include: Create and manage documents, format text, paragraphs and sections, creating tables and lists, manage references, formatting graphic elements, create and manage presentations, formatting text, shapes and images, inserting tables and charts, working with transitions, animations, and managing multiple presentations.

2020-2 ENGL0090 PRE COLLEGE ENGLISH I

The ENGL0090 (Pre College English One) course focuses on an in-depth review of grammar with emphasis upon usage. Strong attention will be given to the development of composition and critical reading skills in reference to the development and organization of paragraphs for a variety of purposes. Vocabulary development and a wide range of supplementary readings will complement this course of study.

2020-2 ENGL0095 PRE COLLEGE ENGLISH II

This course focuses on developing competency in grammar usage, reading and writing that are necessary to succeed in College English courses. It is designed to help students develop writing skills; therefore, the course emphasizes the writing process and critical awareness that are vital for academic ?and technical ?purposes.

2020-2 GSTU0014 STUDY SKILLS

The emphasis in this course is on learning skills that are essential for success in college work. This includes strategies for a successful transfer to the University of Belize after participating in the Open and Distant Learning developmental course.  This course is designed for students to learn study skills and test taking strategies that will provide them with the necessary skills to be successful in college. Topics for the course will include but are not limited to: note taking strategies, learning styles/personality indicators, study strategies, resource usage/research skills, stress management/test anxiety, test taking strategies, and textbook usage.

2020-2 MATH0014 DEVELOPMENTAL MATHEMATICS

This course examines the basic/fundamental concepts of real numbers and algebra. Its purpose is to provide students who are not adequately prepared to take on Intermediate Algebra (Math 1014) with the necessary mathematical concepts they had not acquired. The very basic concepts will be taught at a pace that is suitable to the students taking this course.
