2019-3 ENGL3105O LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION

This is a three-credit course which focuses upon developing listening, speaking, verbal and nonverbal interaction by first introducing students to the definition of what is a communication and the 3 integral role of language. Specifically, the characteristics of Creole languages will be discussed, with some contrastive analysis to the English language, with a view towards improving students' structural competence (oral, written, visual). Emphasis is place upon individual presentations, discussions and other projects. The use of local and regional media outputs will be used to develop students' appreciation of how the new technologies are influencing perception of culture and communication in our society. Upon completion, students should be able to improve interpersonal communication skills to enhance classroom, job and social performance.
