This course prepares students for professional practice in the multicultural setting of Belize; develop self-awareness, professionalism, sensitization to the knowledge, values, and skills for work with individuals, introduce students to social service agencies, policy, and procedures that affect service delivery. It presents generalist practice Social Work from a multicultural perspective. It teaches the student the planned change process; a process beginning with identifying client concerns, engagement, information gathering, assessment, implementation, and concluding with an evaluation. This is done within the framework of social work values and ethics to strengthen and empower individuals as well as systems. Emphasis will be on sensitivity to human and cultural diversity, issues include but are not limited to gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and disabilities.
