BMLS2052 INTRODUCTION TO MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE

This course is an orientation to the profession of Medical Laboratory Technology. It introduces the student to the terms, concepts, procedures, and equipment used in the clinical laboratory. Topics include: professional ethics and regulation, licensing and accreditation processes, basic laboratory safety, use and care of equipment, basic medical laboratory techniques (Chemistry, Microbiology, Hematology, Immunohematology, Cellular Pathology etc); phlebotomy, specimen collection & processing, basic concepts and applications of quality assurance; process improvement; documentation; and point of care testing.
