This course is an orientation to the profession of Medical Laboratory Technology. It introduces the student to the concepts, basic laboratory techniques, procedures, and equipment used in the clinical laboratory. Topics include: professional ethics, basic laboratory safety and universal precautions, use and care of equipment, basic medical laboratory techniques in all clinical laboratory departments; phlebotomy and specimen processing, basic concepts and applications of quality assurance; process improvement; documentation; and point of care testing.
