2020-2 BMLS3302L APPLIED CLINICAL HEMATOLOGY I LAB

In this course students will apply the theoretical knowledge of the characteristics and procedures used to identify cells and enumerate of the hematopoietic system in the clinical laboratory. They will analyze cell morphology and quantify results to determine hematological disease states. Procedures to be practiced include collection, preservation, and preparation of blood samples, slide preparation utilizing the appropriate staining technique, blood cell estimate and count, RBC integrity tests, coagulation tests and quality control in the hematology lab. These procedures will enable students to properly characterize the morphology and identify disorders of the erythrocyte, leukocyte, platelet and bone marrow and coagulation disorders. Instrumentation applications specifically related to the clinical hematology and hemostasis laboratory will also be reviewed.
