2020-2 HIST1302 ANCIENT ASIA CIVILIZATION

Ancient Asian Civilisations (HIST1302) is a three-credit hour course that introduces the political, social, intellectual and cultural events that distinguished Ancient Asian Civilisation (China, Japan, Korea, and India), from its earliest roots to the dawn of the modern era. Emphasis is placed on reading primary sources, historical, political and intellectual; including literary and visual sources, to provide a deeper appreciation of the heritage that today defines and explains the Asian societies globally. The class will cover in some detail twentieth-century wars in China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. Also, we will explore Asian religion, independence struggles, Asian diasporas and the effects of globalisation in Asia and the world.
