2020-2 HIST2352 EUROPE IN THE AGE OF DISCOVERY
This course introduces students to events and forces that shaped the emergence of Europe from Feudalism to the Enlightenment. The course examines common challenges and experiences that united and divided Europe. Topics to be covered will include: feudalism and serfdom; Reformation and the spread of Christianity; the Renaissance; the Age of Science in Europe (the printing press and the spread of ideas); The Age of Exploration (the compass and the caravel); the Age of Mercantilism; urbanization and urbanism; class and other social issues and the Age of Enlightenment.
