2020-2 BIOL1102 GENETICS

Genetics (BIOL1102) is a course designed for students pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Medical
Laboratory. This course introduces the students to the basic principles of classical genetics involving the work of Mendel, exceptions & extensions of Mendelian genetics, the study of informational macromolecules and how they direct molecular processes in both eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. Topics include structure and functions of DNA, organizations of DNA in chromosomes, RNA, gene transcription and expression, factors causing variations in the genetic material. Modern genetics and its applications like cloning, recombinant DNA technology, and DNA sequencing.
