2020-2 ECON2015 PRINCIPLES OF ECONOMICS

This is a first level one semester course intended as an initial introduction to the study of economics. At the micro level, this course is designed to provide an understanding of basic microeconomic concepts and principles. The aim is for students to develop an ability to apply the concepts to real world situations. Topics to be covered include supply, demand and market equilibrium, consumer behaviour, production and cost, perfect and imperfect competition, antitrust policy and labour market. At the macro level, this course exposes students to contemporary issues in macroeconomic analysis and policy. It will also acquaint students with the distinctive features of small open economies, such as Belize, the wider Caribbean, Central America and North America. Topics to be covered include National Income, Aggregate Spending, Inflation, Unemployment, International Trade, Monetary Policy, Fiscal Policy and Balance of Payments.
