This course is focused on the main methods involved in conducting both rapid and long-term field sampling and assessment of marine and terrestrial resources. Students will be exposed to the theory and practical aspects of the methodology used to conduct field sampling and assessments in marine, terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems.  They will also be given the opportunity to apply this knowledge through first hand field experiences. The course will include collection and identification in various ecosystems and key taxa and specific methods for assessing the health and integrity of ecosystems. Through this mode the course will stimulate and build their understanding and skills needed to plan and implement marine, terrestrial and freshwater field work and the assessment of resources in these systems.

The course is an intensive field course with a 9-day terrestrial/freshwater component and a 9-day marine component. The course material will be delivered mainly through lectures and field work.  Students will be expected to actively participate in all aspects.
