This Online General Orientation is comprised of a series of infomercials, narratives and instruction videos supplemented with questions and interactive activities to ensure that all new students are properly prepared to embrace the uniquely transformative culture of Belize’s national university and to thrive in an enabling learning environment both in and outside of the classroom while living up to their responsibilities and celebrating their rights.

We trust by the end of this one of a kind experience, you will feel the warmth of the Black Jaguar Welcome and you will become empowered with knowledge and information to live up to your academic and financial responsibilities while becoming fully prepared to make the most of the myriad opportunities the university will provide you to heighten your personal and professional development

Finally, we expect that you will leave this orientation experience feeling inspired and motivated to become an active student; willing to participate in the university culture and make the most of your university experience.


This course is designed to prepare students who are enrolled in courses (Web-Enhanced, Blended, and or Online) at the University of Belize. Students are required to complete all three (3) Levels based on the course modality registered for:

Level 1: MOODLE for Students

Is tailored for students enrolled in Web-Enhanced Courses, also known as face to face courses at the University of Belize.  Students are required to complete this level, once every two years. Topics include Introduction to E-Learning; and A Student's Guide to Moodle. Once complete students will gain immediate access to their face to face courses on the Moodle platform.

Level 2: E-Learning for Students

Students who have successfully completed level 1 (MOODLE for Students) and are interested in enrolling in a Blended or Online Course should complete this level ( E-Learning for Students). Students are required to complete this level, once every two years. Topics include The Virtual Classroom. Once complete, students will gain immediate access to their blended and online courses on the Moodle platform.

Level 3: Lockdown Browser

Students who have successfully completed level 1 (MOODLE for Students) and level 2 (E-Learning for Students) and are enrolled in courses at the university are required to complete this level. Lockdown Browser is a customized browser application designed for the prevention of cheating when taking tests or final examinations. This self-paced course is designed for students of the University of Belize who will be utilizing the MOODLE platform to complete their test/final assessment. This course focuses on topics such as What is the Respondus Browser, Purpose, Instructor Controls, The Respondus Monitor, and Installing the Lockdown Browser.

The sessions ( Level 1 -3) teach participants through visual layouts and online practice exercises to enhance, their e-learning platform and tools skills, accompanied by step by step video tutorials to help guide participants as they progress through each skill. Upon completion of these sessions’ participants will have the necessary skills to attend, participate and be successful at any e-learning course enrolled at the University of Belize.
